The tail that once burst with energy

Lay limp by its owner’s side;

Yellow fur once, eaten away by lesions

Caused due to his prior owner’s rotten inside.

A handsome Lab he would be

Had he not been cast aside

By his malicious previous owners,

Who let maggots burrow into his hide.

Bruno was his name,

And he was ever ready to learn;

Despite all his ailments

Deafness, blindness and heart burn.

Held no grudges, only ever love.

Though perpetually suffering, he never let it show.

And even when his heart stopped

His love continued to grow.

Even in eternal sleep

His face portrayed innocence.

He tried to gather the courage to live,

But he was unable to fight his ailments.

His perky, quirky behaviour,

Now silenced in death.

His eyes, curious and wide,

Ever staring into space after his last breath.
