Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance form is said to have originated in modern-day Tamil Nadu. The Natya Shastra by Bharata Muni and Abhinaya Darpana by Nandikeshvara are considered to be the original sources of Bharatanatyam. It is one of eight recognised Indian classical dance forms along with Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri and Sattriya and it expresses South Indian religious and spiritual themes, particularly of Shaivism, Vaishnavism and Shaktism.
I love dance, particularly this form, perhaps because I have been learning it since I was eight, under the tutelage of Guru Jayalakshmi Eshwar at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi.
Here are some of our performances I co-choreographed and co-performed with my classmates during the long lockdowns due to the Pandemic. Hope you enjoy them.
